Virtual Seoul Platform 2.0

3D Online Conference Platform

A virtual tourism and online conference platform developed in collaboration with the Seoul Tourism Organization, allowing users worldwide to explore Seoul's landmarks and participate in virtual meetings.I was responsible for UX/UI design and planning, implementing responsive design and WebGL-based 3D elements for an immersive experience.Additionally, I planned and designed a feature that enables users to conduct virtual meetings with Seoul's tourist attractions as their background, offering a new way to experience online conferences.

THE CHALLENGE

How can we effectively combine virtual tourism and online conferences in the era of remote communication?

With the challenges posed by COVID-19, there was a growing need for a platform that could integrate online conferences with virtual tourism.Virtual Seoul introduced a feature that allows users to explore 3D-rendered landmarks of Seoul while participating in live video conferences. This provided an immersive virtual meeting experience, enabling users to connect with others against the backdrop of iconic Seoul attractions.

SOLUTION

A New Remote Experience Combining Virtual Tourism and Online Conferences

We implemented 3D exploration for major Seoul landmarks, enhancing user immersion. Additionally, we introduced a feature that allows users to conduct live video meetings with famous tourist sites as their background, creating a novel remote conference experience. A responsive design was applied to ensure a seamless experience across PC, tablet, and mobile devices.

WHAT DID I LEARN?

iconLessons Learned and Areas for Improvement in Virtual Seoul 2.0

Through the Virtual Seoul 2.0 project, I learned the importance of balancing UX/UI planning with technical implementation. Unlike traditional website planning, designing UI that seamlessly integrates into virtual spaces required a different approach.

Implementing a Content Management System (CMS) allowed non-developers to easily modify the platform, which was a positive experience. However, I realized the need for a more intuitive CMS UX, and in future projects, I aim to enhance its usability for more efficient management.

Additionally, expanding the platform with virtual exhibitions and 1:1 business consultations (PSA) raised new challenges in scalability. As more features were introduced, ensuring a consistent and intuitive UI became increasingly important. This experience reinforced the need for maintaining simplicity and clarity in UX while expanding functionalities.

To avoid obstructing the visual elements of the virtual space, we opted for a static UI layout, but in future projects, I would like to explore more creative approaches to seamlessly integrate UI within virtual environments.
