How can we effectively build a pet community within a metaverse environment?
Existing pet communities often have a limited structure, primarily functioning as static discussion boards. While they allow for information sharing, they lack interactive features that actively engage users, resulting in low participation. To address this, we developed a metaverse-based community that goes beyond traditional limitations. Users can customize pet avatars, decorate MyHome spaces, and participate in gamified interactions. By incorporating enhanced social features and a well-structured board system, we created a dynamic and engaging community that fosters long-term participation.
An Immersive Metaverse Community for Pet Owners
OmoOmo was designed as a metaverse-based community where pet owners can interact, share information, and engage with their virtual pets. By integrating pet healthcare, community features, and gamification elements, we encouraged active participation and increased user retention. Additionally, we conducted extensive user research with over 200 participants to develop features that genuinely address the needs of pet owners. This included pet avatar customization, MyHome space decoration, and a ranking system. These features were carefully crafted to enhance user experience and establish OmoOmo as a comprehensive lifestyle platform for both pets and their owners.

Image Upload & Editing
OmoOmo's Task Flow illustrates the process of selecting, uploading, editing, and applying images to a post. The flow is designed to enable users to complete these steps efficiently with minimal actions.

Post & Comment System Architecture
This Information Architecture outlines the structure of OmoOmo’s post and comment system. It visualizes the user journey from writing a post to exploring content, leaving comments, and interacting with reactions. As part of the overall service IA, it defines the flow from post creation to timeline visibility and comment interactions. Additionally, key considerations for date formatting and comment functionality have been incorporated into the system design.

Post Moderation System for Community Management & UX Enhancement
To ensure a safe and seamless community experience, OmoOmo has implemented an automated and manual post moderation system. Using AWS moderation tools, the system detects inappropriate content and flags it for further review. This proactive filtering helps maintain a trustworthy and engaging platform.

Project management was conducted using Jira and Excel, with Gantt charts created to visually organize schedules and progress. Additionally, I assisted the project manager (PM) by drafting test scenarios for key screens and carried out structured testing based on these scenarios to ensure quality assurance.

The detailed screen design document was created based on requirements analysis, defining the layout and functionality of each screen while considering user experience (UX) and functional requirements.

Reached 100,000 users within 6 months and ranked #1 in social app category.
Surpassed 565,000 total downloads.
Experience in All Stages from Planning to Growth and Operation
OmoOmo was not just about feature development but about defining the direction and identity of the service from the start. I was involved in every aspect, from naming and character planning to designing virtual spaces and setting service policies, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the project lifecycle. Beyond the initial launch, I also gained experience in maintaining and enhancing the service by continuously incorporating real user feedback to improve functionality and user experience.
Through collaboration with various departments, I was exposed to marketing strategies, user support processes, and technical optimizations, allowing me to develop problem-solving skills in live service operations.
User Experience Design in the Metaverse
UX design in the metaverse differs from traditional web or app design, as immersion and interaction methods play a crucial role.
While designing pet character movements, emotional expressions, and navigation within virtual spaces, we focused on creating an environment where users naturally engage and stay in the community.
By conducting research with over 200 users, we refined character design and spatial themes, ensuring a balance between realism and entertainment in the user experience.
Additionally, we optimized user flows and interaction patterns within the virtual space to ensure that even first-time users could easily navigate the environment through intuitive UI elements and a well-structured navigation system.
